Eyal Alkoby's life has indeed heen a remarkable journey. Rooted deeply within this young man is an optimism and intensity

which offers few clues to what now seems a very distant past. Born in Israel, by the late 1980s Eyal (pronounced A'yell) was a soldier assigned to Israeli Intelligence. It was his first visit to America in 1990 which shaped a destiny that set his life on a much different course. It was on this trip that he met and fell in love with a young Californian named Beth. They subsequently married and Eyal found himself in a whole new environment and culture. A1- though he could only speak and
write a few words of English, he was determined to find a successful career for himself and become a good provider for his family. After a long job search, he was finally offered employment with a company involved in the remanufacture of laser cartridges. He enjoyed his job and worked hard to learn all aspects of the business and improve his language skills. However, in early 1992, Eyal Alkoby and his employer decided to part company.

This was, without question, a low point for the proud young man. He and Beth were expecting their first child, they had little savings, and the ex-soldier had few marketable skills and little work experience. Evaluating his circumstance, Eyal determined that the only thing he really knew how to do was remanufacture laser cartridges. With no other prospects or options in sight, he had little choice but to see if he could earn a living practicing this new found trade on his own.
Less than five years later, Laser Imaging International, the company he founded in a 500-square-foot room, produces over 15,000 laser cartridges and 4,000 ink jet cartridges per month. In addition to the company's 26,000-square-foot facility in Canoga Park, California, is a production facility in Hungary and an office in Israel. Although the company has become one of the most remarkable success stories in the office products recycling industry, some things have not changed. On the day RECHARGER Magazine toured Laser Imaging International's California facility, this corre- spondent was met by a broadly smiling Eyal Alkoby, dressed resplendently in a suit and tie- with toner smudges on his face. Now a successful businessman, Eyal still practices his trade.
